THE SAGA OF FROST AND FLAME
A Viking Epic

In the twilight of the ninth century, as Harald Fairhair’s iron grip tightens across Norway, one man’s defiance sparks a journey that will reshape the destiny of nations.

Leif Thorvaldson, once the trusted captain of Jarl Harald’s elite guard, finds himself an outlaw when he refuses to participate in the ritual slaughter of Saxon prisoners. Forced to flee his homeland with a small band of loyal followers, Leif embarks on a perilous voyage across the North Sea to Iceland, seeking refuge beyond Harald’s reach.

But even in Iceland’s volcanic landscapes, Harald’s shadow follows. When news arrives that the vengeful jarl has placed a bounty on Leif’s head, the exiles must make an unprecedented choice—to journey further westward into uncharted waters, guided only by rumors of a distant, timber-rich land.

Joining Leif is the fiercely independent shield-maiden Freyja Ironheart, who challenges traditional gender roles while proving her worth as both warrior and leader; the enigmatic berserker Sigurd Blackblood, whose primal rage conceals unexpected wisdom; and Halfdan the Wise, an aging advisor whose knowledge bridges old traditions and new necessities.

Their westward voyage leads to Markland, a bountiful shore of towering forests and abundant resources. Here they encounter the Skrælings, indigenous peoples whose knowledge proves crucial to the settlers’ survival during the harsh northern winter. As the settlement struggles to establish itself, Leif must forge an unprecedented alliance with the native inhabitants while preparing for the inevitable moment when Harald’s vengeance finds them across the western ocean.

When that day comes, the battle that ensues will determine not just the fate of Leif’s settlement but the possibility of a new kind of society—one built on respect and cooperation rather than conquest and subjugation. The saga of these Norse exiles challenges the traditional patterns of Viking expansion, offering a vision of what might have been had different choices shaped the encounter between European settlers and indigenous North Americans.

“The Saga of Frost and Flame” combines rigorous historical detail with immersive world-building, creating a narrative that honors both Norse cultural traditions and indigenous perspectives. Through battle and alliance, hardship and triumph, the settlers of Markland plant the seeds of an alternative history—one whose harvest might have changed the course of nations.
